MA ILTUS Students Visit Cyprus

22 Jun, 11

Students from Ruskin's MA in international labour and trade union studies (ILTUS) were recent guests of the Cyprus Workers' Federation (SEK). The students were hosted by SEK at their residential facility in the resort town of Protaras and were able to able to attend a series of guest seminars at the Federation's head officers (pictured) in Nicosia and in other venues across the island. This additional feature of the MA was made possible as five part-time students of the MA are SEK officers. As Progamme Co-ordinator of the MA Ian Manborde thanked the SEK students for their hospitality and in particular was appreciative of an opportunity to build on historical links with the Federation which go back to 1974 when the island was invaded by the Turkish army which has contined to occupy the north of the island since. In 1974 Ruskin hosted SEK officers for a period of three months during a time when the Federation had seen its finances and resources affected by the island's invasion.
